April 14, 2010

IRVING, Texas –

Kansas junior right fielder Casey Lytle has been selected as a Big 12 Conference Chick-Fil-A Community of Champions honoree for the 2010 spring season. The conference recognizes one athlete from each institution, regardless of sport, based on academics, community service and leadership/sportsmanship.

Lytle, a junior outfielder from Phoenix, Ariz., was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2009 while majoring in business. He was an active member in KU’s student-athletes’ service projects.

On the field, Lytle is batting .295 in 30 starts for KU with seven doubles, a triple, a home run and 33 runs scored. The junior has reached base at a .421 clip, and leads the team with 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts. He was selected the Big 12 Player of the Week on March 15 after leading KU to a series win at then-No. 1 LSU.

Lytle and the Jayhawks (20-13-1) will take on Nebraska in a three-game series this weekend in Lincoln, Neb. The series begins Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
