EQUIPMENT: ROCK CHALK VIDEO
Rock Chalk Video (RCV) is the video and multimedia production department for Kansas Athletics. The department is located in the Rock Chalk Video studio on the second floor, west side of Memorial Stadium. An ancillary office and studio is located in Allen Fieldhouse. The Director of Rock Chalk Video is responsible for overseeing all video operations and services for Kansas Athletics. Only video staff members who have been properly trained are authorized to use video equipment. RCV also shall maintain all multimedia content for kuathletics.com “Total Access” and any associated video content for Kansas Athletics website. RCV does not staff or purchase equipment for coaches “cut-up” video. The Director of RCV will advise individual sports concerning equipment purchases specific to their coaching needs, but each sport is responsible for its own coaches’ video needs and equipment.
All requests for video needs should be directed to the Director of Rock Chalk Video with appropriate advance notice. Appropriate advance notice is crucial to the completion of any project. This includes but is not limited to: Highlight Tapes, sport banquets, other banquets, reunions or gatherings that will need audio/visual content or support, commercials, interviews, national and local media requests, radio spots, and all video content for the videoboard in Memorial stadium.
The director of RCV will be responsible for scripting and producing all elements of the football game day videoboard production, Kansas Relays, and any live event at Memorial stadium. All sponsorships, video spots, and video requests must go through the director, and be approved by the Associate Athletic Director External Affairs for consideration for time during a production. Kansas Athletics does not recognize birthdays, anniversaries or allow marriage proposals on the videoboard.
Sports that desire a season highlight video or video services of any kind are required to meet with the Director of Video Services prior to their season to review desires and expectations for that season. All costs associated with travel of video personal to away events is the responsibility of the given sport. At present, no charge is assessed for labor or materials; however, there may be a charge for such services at a future date.
Any request for video services relating to recruiting in any way, must first be authorized by the compliance department.
RCV and its employees will fulfill the terms of the media contract with ESPN Regional as it relates to the shooting, logging, editing, writing and overall production of the following: 40 individual Jayhawk Minutes, Men’s & Women’s Basketball coaches shows, and any DVD/VHS authoring and production as it relates to Men’s Basketball and Football season long videos. Kansas Athletics will work with the University to produce coverage for commencement. Kansas Athletics at present only charges the University hard costs for this event and not a usage fee, but this may change in the future. RCV video, in the spirit of cooperation with the University will also help produce certain videoboard elements for the University on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Director.
The director will be responsible for hiring and overseeing all full-time, student and intern staff members of RCV, as well as hiring a capable freelance production crew to assist with video production on game days.
Request for Video
All video requests from local & national media outlets, private parties, and public companies shall be directed to the Director of RCV. RCV will handle all requests on a case-by-case basis. The cost of shipping these tapes will either be paid by RCV or the requesting entity at the discretion of the Director. Kansas Athletics does not make available copies of any sports athletic contests to the public, regardless of whether the contest was produced in house or by an outside entity. Video footage requests made by companies wishing to profit in any way from Kansas Athletics athletes or employees footage, will be handled on an individual basis and the Director will consult with appropriate parties (ESPN Regional, Associate AD for External Affairs) to determine if the request is something the department would like to pursue.
Duplication of Tapes
RCV is not set up to be a duplication center; however, duplication services are completed as time allows for a limited numbers of tapes. Videotape duplication requests are to be submitted to the Director of Rock Chalk Video. Requestors are charged only for the cost of blank tapes used and associated sleeves. There is no charge if the requestor provides blank tapes. Duplication needs of over 30 tapes will generally be contracted out of house to a duplicator.
