Jayhawks to Compete In Hawkeye Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas’ men’s golf team will travel Iowa City, Ia. to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational April 16-17. The Jayhawks last competed in the Cowboy Classic, where they placed 15th. This is Kansas’ last tournament before they compete in the Big 12 Championships, which take place April 25-27.

Head coach Kit Grove has made one lineup change for the upcoming tournament. Sophomore Chris Gilbert is back in the lineup, replacing senior Jeff Bell. Gilbert leads the team in scoring average for the 2010-11 season with a 73.55. Gilbert will look to pick up where he left off, shooting two rounds in the 60s in the last tournament he competed in.

Also making the trip to Iowa City are: senior Nate Barbee, junior Doug Quinones, and sophomores Alex Gutesha and Dan Waite.

Barbee posted his best tournament score of the fall season at the Cowboy Classic with a 218, including his best single round of the fall season, a 70. Barbee currently has the third best scoring average on the team with a 74.13.

Quinones has played his best golf of the spring in the last two tournaments, shooting a 218 at the Border Olympics and a 219 at the Cowboy Classic, improving his scoring average on the season to 75.41.

Gutesha finished with the best score among Kansas individuals at the Cowboy Classic with a 215, including a second round score of 69 and a third round score of 70. He improved his scoring average to 73.81, second best on the team.

Waite managed to post his second best tournament score of the 2010-11 season at the Cowboy Classic with a 227, including a third round score of 73. Waite’s scoring average currently stands at 77.58.
