April 16, 2005
Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Kansas tennis team fell to the Colorado Buffaloes, 5-2, Saturday at Robinson Courts. The loss drops the Jayhawks record to 4-15 overall and 3-7 in Big 12 play.
KU earned two victories in singles competition as junior Christine Skoda and freshman Stephanie Smith continued to roll in Big 12 play. In No. 2 singles, Skoda dropped Colorado’s Kendra Strandemo in straight-sets, 7-5, 6-3. With the win, Skoda improves to 7-3 in the Big 12 and 8-11 this spring.
Smith notched a third-set tiebreaker victory over Gliesy Torres Torres, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0, to continue her five-match winning streak in No. 6 singles. Freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva fell in No. 1 singles to Colorado’s Lynzee Kever in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
KU was shutout in doubles as the team dropped all three matches.
“I thought that we fought harder today than we did against Kansas State,” KU head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “We cannot continue to get down early in our matches against top Big 12 opponents.”
The Jayhawks will host Texas A&M Sunday, April 24, at Robinson Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
