Kansas In Fourth After One Round of Play

IOWA CITY, Ia. –

Kansas’ men’s golf team finished the first round of the Hawkeye Invitational in fourth place with a score of 308. Due to wet and snowy conditions in the Iowa City area, the tournament has been cut from three rounds to two. The second and final round will take place on Sunday. Kansas currently sits 11 strokes behind leader Missouri.Sophomore Dan Waite led the way for Kansas with a round of 74, putting him in a tie for fourth place among individuals. His round of 74 is one stroke shy of his season best round of 73.Senior Nate Barbee finished the day in a tie for 20th with a round of 77. Barbee recorded three top 20 finishes during the fall season, but has yet to record a top 20 finish in the spring season.In his return to the lineup, sophomore Chris Gilbert tied for 27th with a round of 78. Sophomore Alex Gutesha stayed close to the pack with a round of 79, putting him in a tie for 32nd.Junior Doug Quinones rounded things out for the Jayhawks with a round of 82, which puts him in a tie for 49th.Missouri leads the tournament after one round of play with a score of 297. Second place Iowa stands one stroke behind with a 298, while North Texas sits in third place with a 304. Nick Wilson leads all individuals with a first round score of 70.
