Green Named Kansas Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Mahogany Green has joined the Kansas women’s basketball staff head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Monday. Green will serve as an assistant coach and replaces Aqua Franklin, who accepted an assistant coaching position at Mississippi State.
Green spent the past four seasons as an assistant at Central Michigan where she recently helped guide the Chippewas to their second-straight postseason appearance and fourth in school history. At CMU, Green served as the recruiting coordinator, academic liaison, scout, and worked on player development, primarily with the guards.
“We are very excited to welcome Mahogany to Kansas,” Henrickson said. “Her energy and enthusiasm have made her instrumental in recruiting high-caliber student-athletes to Central Michigan. She also has a great deal of success in developing quality point guards, a position which she played during a decorated career at Cleveland State.”
The Toledo, Ohio native assisted Central Michigan in bringing in the No. 43 recruiting class in 2010. It was the highest of any Michigan school and the only team in the Mid-American Conference to be recognized. It consisted of the nation’s No. 37 prospect, Crystal Bradford, who earned All-Mid American Conference Honorable Mention accolades in 2011-12. Green has also worked with fellow guards Niki DiGuilio and Brandie Baker, the 2011 and 2009 MAC Freshmen of the Year, respectively.
“I have enjoyed my last four years at Central Michigan and I am thankful that coach (Sue) Guevara allowed me to be a part of her program,” Green said of her time with the Chippewas. “Kansas is a great opportunity for me. The athletic history there really drew me to the job and obviously the success they have experienced this past season and the last couple of years.
“Bonnie has done a great job at KU and has had success everywhere she has gone. I want to continue to progress as a coach and Bonnie is a great person to learn from.”
Prior to her time at CMU, Green served similar roles as an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky (2008), IPFW (2007) and Eastern Michigan (2004-06). Eastern Michigan advanced to the postseason all three seasons with Green on staff, including the 2004 NCAA Tournament. She also worked closely with EMU’s Ryan Coleman who was a two-time WBCA All-America Honorable Mention during that time, as well as a three-time first-team All-MAC choice and the 2004 MAC Tournament MVP.
A four-year letterwinner at Cleveland State, Green was the team’s Most Valuable Player in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons. The two-time first team All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) selection was also named to the league’s all-tournament team in 2000 and 2001. Green finished her career second in the Viking record book with 151 three-point field goals.
As a senior, Green led the Vikings in scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg) and assists (4.64 apg) and scored a career-best 37 points with seven three-point field goals against Detroit. The previous year, she recorded the program’s third triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists against Niagara.
After prepping at Bowsher High School, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Cleveland State in 2002 with a degree in psychology and is pursuing a master’s degree in sport management/sport psychology at CSU.
Following her graduation from CSU, Green played one season of professional basketball in Ankara, Turkey, before returning to her alma mater as a graduate assistant for the 2002-03 season.
