Kansas City's Marching Cobras to Open GOLDZONE II for Kansas Relays

April 17, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas Relays Meet Director Tim Weaver announced that the Marching Cobras will be on hand at the 79th Kansas Relays to kickoff GOLDZONE II on Saturday, April 22. They will present an extended performance beginning at 1:40 p.m. The Cobras are a drill team out of Kansas City, Mo., that have gained national acclaim for their exhilarating performances and unique costumes. Led by Willie Smith, the Cobras performed at halftime of several KU men’s and women’s basketball games this past season as well as entertainment and sporting events around the United States.

“The Marching Cobras are the ideal opening act for GOLDZONE II,” said Weaver. “They are a great mix of entertainment, music and athleticism — the GOLDZONE has those very same qualities. This Kansas City group is considered the best in the nation, and the Kansas Relays, a meet of 110 champions, is proud to add another gold medal winner to the roster with the Marching Cobras. We valued the fans and their entertainment above all when we set the schedule for the afternoon, and I can’t think of a better, more electrifying show to get everyone smiling early on April 22.”

The 79th Kansas Relays will run from April 20 – 22; the GOLDZONE II is Saturday, April 22 from 2-5 p.m. For more information on the Kansas Relays, a complete GOLDZONE II schedule and ticket information, visit http://kuathletics.collegesports.com/sports/c-relay/.
