Costner Remains in Lead, Kansas Improves to Fifth after Round Two of Big 12 Championship

Senior Amanda Costner remains the leader individually Tuesday, and is seven shots ahead of second place, after shooting a 73, the best individual score of the second day of the Big 12 Championship. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas improved to fifth place after round two shooting 314 for a two-round total of 626 at the Ridgewood Country Club.

Costner, whose total is 144 (71-73) after two rounds, is looking to become the first Jayhawk to capture the individual title. Prior to this year, she was also the only KU athlete to place among the top 10 individuals in scoring (seventh place in 2004) since the Big 12 began competition in 1997.

“I am real proud of Amanda,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “She had real composure today and is in good position. Her experience and hard work is definitely helping. It was a tough day with the winds and rain. The girls did a good job of hanging in there and grinding it out.”

Oklahoma State surpassed Texas A&M in the second round and is the currently leading the team competition with a two-round score of 611.

Junior Annie Giangrosso is tied for 28th place after shooting a 77 in the second round for a total of 158 (81-77). Freshman Emily Powers carded an 80 in the second round to bring her to 161 (81-80) after two rounds and a tie for 38th place.

Freshman Camilla Svensson shot 84 in day two for a total of 163 (79-84), and freshman Meghan Gockel carded an 87 for a two-round score of 168.

The final round of the Big 12 Championship will tee-off on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
