The No. 15/16 Baylor Bears left Lawrence with an 8-0 win over Kansas softball Sunday afternoon in the Jayhawks’ Pink in the Park game. The Bears, now 34-8 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12, swept the weekend series with KU, which fell to 28-17 on the season, including 1-13 in conference play.

Baylor first got on the board in the top half of the first inning with a bases-loaded double by Holly Holl, which cleared the bags and made it 3-0.

That three-run shot knocked freshman Kristin Martinez out of the circle as senior Allie Clark would toe the rubber with one out remaining in the first. Clark would get out of the inning with the help of Jayhawk backstop Brittany Hile, who tagged out Holl while attempting to steal home.

The Bears tacked on another run in the second with an RBI single by Shelbi Redfern, which scored Clare Hosack who doubled to lead off the inning.

The Jayhawks got their first hit in the bottom of the third on an infield single by freshman second baseman Ashley Newman. Sophomore Alex Jones got the only other hit for Kansas, a single in the fourth frame.

Two Baylor home runs, one by Whitney Canion and another by Kathy Shelton, helped make the score 8-0 after five innings, where the game went final.

Canion also went the distance for the Bears in the circle and picked up the victory as she moved to 19-5 on the season. Martinez took the loss for Kansas and fell to 12-9.

The Jayhawks will look to get back in the win column as they take a break from Big 12 Conference play and host Tulsa in a doubleheader on Wednesday, starting at 3 p.m. inside Arrocha Ballpark.
