Kansas head coach Ritch Price
On the performance of freshman pitcher Alex Cox:
“He was special today, especially in this environment with the intensity level in this ballpark anytime Kansas and Missouri play. He got into trouble a few times, but every time he got into trouble he made a big pitch and got a double play ball and got out of it. It was a tremendous performance by a freshman.”
On the bullpen tandem of sophomore Thomas Taylor and freshman Frank Duncan:
“They were both really good today too. They allowed us not to have to use (KU closer) Colton (Murray), after he pitched yesterday. That was a great as well. It’s really exciting for not only right now, but for our future to start a freshman and then bring in a sophomore and have a freshman close it out. Those guys have really emerged and (pitching) Coach (Ryan) Graves has done a really good job with them.”
On the series win at Missouri:
“I was really proud of our team. In the past when we’ve come down here and lost late in the game, we’ve gotten boat-raced the next day. It shows how much this team has matured and the toughness that is in our dugout.”
On looking ahead to hosting Texas next weekend:
“When you do something special and win four series out of five, it makes each weekend bigger than the last one. Now we get No. 5 Texas coming to town (next week). We’ve put ourselves in position to not only make the Big 12 tournament, but make the NCAA Tournament if we continue to play well.”
