Kansas Varsity Four Named Conference USA Boat of the Week

IRVING, Texas – After winning the grand final at the Knecht Cup on Sunday, April 15, the Kansas Varsity Four has been named the Conference USA Boat of the Week it was announced Tuesday.

The Varsity Four won gold on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J., as KU was eight seconds faster than the other five schools in the race with a time of 7:31.11. KU beat out UMass, Philadelphia, Penn State, Villanova and Old Dominion.

The Kansas crew consisted of seniors Kathryn Schoonover, Paige Stephens and coxswain Lindsey Bricklemyer and juniors Emily Starr and Ashleigh Allam who won their original heat of six boats to advance to the semifinals. The Jayhawks would also finish first in the semifinals to then advance to the grand final.

This is the first C-USA Boat of the Week honor for the Kansas program.

Kansas has the weekend off from competition before the Jayhawks head to Oklahoma City, Okla. for the Big 12 Championship on April 28.
