Daniels Claims Big 12 Athlete of the Week Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Paris Daniels was named the Big 12 Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week the league office announced Wednesday. Daniels posted the NCAA’s third-fastest 200-meter time in a win last weekend at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The conference honor is the first weekly award of her KU career.

Daniels, who hails from St. Louis, ran away from the field in the 200 meters at the John McDonnell Invitational on Saturday, April 13. The reigning Big 12 champion in the event, Daniels crossed the finish in a wind-aided time of 22.76 to take the event title by nearly half a second. Her mark is the No. 3 time recorded in the NCAA this year and is the fourth-fastest any-condition time in the world in 2013. Daniels now holds three top-three ranked times in the Big 12 this year: the 100 meters (11.37), the 200 meters (22.76) and the 4×400-meter relay (3:32.26).

Daniels, along with her No. 1-ranked KU women’s team, will be in action this week at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence. Daniels is set to compete in the 100 meters and the invitational field of the 200 meters Saturday.
