Texas Blanks Jayhawk Tennis, 7-0

April 18, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Edina Horvath and Kate Morozova outlasted Texas’ 34th-ranked doubles tandem of Corovic and Milic to win their doubles match, 8-3, but it wasn’t enough as the Jayhawk tennis team fell, 7-0, to the No. 32 Longhorns at First Serve Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.

The setback dropped KU to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in the Big 12. Texas improved to 13-6 and 9-1 in conference play. Despite a valiant effort and the victory at No. 1, KU surrendered the doubles point. Erin Wilbert and Maria Martinez battled from down 7-3, but couldn’t make it back all the way, falling, 8-5 at the No. 2. At the No. 3, Julie Svistun and Kuni Dorn spotted their opponent an early lead and were unable to overcome the slow start as they lost, 8-2. Kansas looks to rebound when it hosts No. 35 Texas A&M tomorrow at 11 a.m. at First Serve Tennis Center. The match against the Aggies will mark KU’s senior day and the last home match for Horvath and Svistun. A short recognition ceremony will take place prior to the start of the match.
