Kansas Golf in Eighth Place after Two Rounds in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kansas women’s golf sits in eighth place after 36 holes at the Lady Buckeye Invitational after the Jayhawks shot rounds of 309 and 314 Saturday at the Scarlet Course. Emily Powers leads KU after day one and is currently tied for twelfth place individually.
“We played well today but we were a little up and down,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “This is a course where you have to be in the right position. I think we can do better tomorrow after having played it today.”
Powers, a junior from Quincy, Ill., shot rounds of 77 and 74 to finish the day with a 151. Rounding out the lineup for the Jayhawks were Sydney Wilson (74-81—155, t27), Meghna Bal (79-80—159, t48), Meghan Gockel (82-79—161) and Grace Thiry (79-86—165, t69). Jennifer Clark, playing as an individual, shot a 81-80—161 for KU and is tied for 55th.
“Emily (Powers) put together a steady round, as did Sydney (Wilson). Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and finish strong tomorrow,” said O’Neil.
Host-school Ohio State leads the field after posting a two-round total 589. The Buckeyes have a 10-shot lead over second place Northwestern. Ohio State golfer In Hong Lim sits atop the individual standings with a two-under-par 142.
