Zach Pederson shot a season-best 73 to lead the Kansas Men’s Golf team to a 12th place finish after day one at the rain shortened Aggie Invitational.
Heavy thunderstorms moved through east Texas early Saturday morning cancelling the first round of the event and subsequently shortening the event to 36 holes.
“We were fortunate to get some holes in today because it didn’t look promising,” said head coach Kit Grove. “Considering we weren’t able to get a practice round in yesterday I thought the conditions slowed things up for us.”
Pederson shot a solid round with two birdies and three bogeys to finish the first day tied for 40th place. Sophomore Nate Barbee shot a two-over 74, including a two-under score over his last 15 holes, to enter the final round tied for 49th place.
Senior Walt Koelbel and junior Bryan Hackenberg both shot opening-round 76’s to finish the day tied for 61st place. Senior Andrew Storm shot a 77 to tie for 66th place. Sophomore Bobby Knowles carded a 79 to enter the final round in 74th place.
Fourth-ranked Oklahoma State shot a 19-under 341 to lead the event after one round of play. Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State and Brandon Burgoon of Texas A&M are tied atop the individual leaderboard with first round scores of 65.
The final round will be conducted on Sunday April 19 and can be tracked live at golfstat.com. Check back to kuathletics.com for a complete recap and results from the Aggie Invitational.
