April 18, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas baseball team will look to break the .500 mark for the first time since March 11, when the Jayhawks take on Saint Mary in a non-Division I game at Hoglund Ballpark Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Admission to Tuesday’s game is free of charge for all fans.

Senior left-handed pitcher Wally Marciel is expected to get the start for KU. Marciel is 4-3 on the season with a 3.52 ERA in 12 appearances, which includes six starts.

The Jayhawks are coming off their first series win over Border Showdown rival Missouri in Columbia, Mo., since 1983. KU defeated the Tigers, 8-3 on Friday night and 6-0 Sunday afternoon. The 6-0 win marked KU’s first shutout at Missouri since 1962. The Jayhawks also defeated Iowa on the road, 11-5, on April 12.

Freshman Ka’iana Eldredge led the Jayhawk offense during the week, batting .583 (7-for-12) with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs in KU’s two wins against Missouri. On the mound, T.J. Walz picked up his fifth win of the season on Friday, while freshman Alex Cox, sophomore Thomas Taylor and freshman Frank Duncan blanked the Tigers on eight hits Sunday.

Following Tuesday’s game, KU will return to action on Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. when No. 4 Texas comes to Lawrence for a three-game Big 12 series.
