Four Kansas Women's Golfers Tabbed to Academic All-Big 12 First Team

April 18, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas seniors Katy Nugent and Maria Jackson along with junior Audrey Yowell and sophomore Meghan Potee were each named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference women’s golf team it was announced Wednesday.

KU has produced at least three first-team selections in each of the last five seasons and has had at least two players recognized on the first team in each of the last ten years. Kansas has landed 47 first-team selections all-time.

“I am very proud of Katy, Maria, Audrey and Meghan’s accomplishments,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “They work really hard to do well in class and on the course and it’s hard to do both so anytime they get recognized for this, it’s awesome.”

Nugent, Yowell and Potee have been key contributors to KU on the course. Nugent was the runner-up at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, while Potee tied for third at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate and Yowell has been the team’s second or third-best finisher in each of the last three tournaments.

To qualify for first-team recognition, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
