LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Junior Jessica Bush and sophomore Monica Dolinsky scored two goals each, while goalkeepers Julie Hanley and Stephanie Baugh combined to hold visiting Washburn scoreless as Kansas blanked the Lady Blues, 5-0 Saturday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex as KU wrapped up its spring exhibition season.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Bush, who scored just one goal as a junior last season, finished a pair of scoring plays in the first half as KU built a 4-0 lead in the initial 45 minutes of play. Dolinsky and freshman Kaitlyn Cunningham also had goals in the first half.

“I thought we played well today,” Kansas head coach Mark Francis said. “We finished our opportunities and I thought this was a good way to end the spring.”

Hanley and Baugh kept the KU nets clear for one half each, however the bigger story on the defensive end was the return of red shirt-junior Jenny Murtaugh, who saw her first action since suffering a season-ending injury in the third match of the regular season.

KU finished the spring officially with a 3-4 record, but played a competitive contest against the men’s club team before today’s win.

“I think we made progress both as a group and individually during the spring,” Francis said. “This was a good platform for us to head into our trip to Brazil and then into next season.”

The Jayhawks will travel to Brazil next month to train together and play a handful of exhibition contests during their stay.
