Jackson and KU's Anderson Highlight Day Four of Kansas Relays With KU Record

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior Nickesha Anderson broke a 30-year-old school record, while Nike’s Bershawn Jackson ran the fastest time in the world in the 400-meter hurdles this year on the final day of the 81st Annual Kansas Relays at Memorial Stadium. Over 13,500 fans enjoyed 11 meet records, a world-leading time and several thrilling performances over the four-day meet.
After setting a regional mark in the 400-meter dash on Friday, Anderson took the 100 meter title in a KU record time of 11.23 and was the anchor leg of the Jayhawks’ regional qualifying 1,600-meter relay team. The Hanover, Jamaica, native broke Sheila Calmese’s time of 11.44 from the 1978 Arkansas Relays.
Julius Jiles and Jordan Scott each had an impressive day for the men. In the invitational 110-meter hurdles, Jiles placed third in a field of professional athletes with a season-best time of 13.69. Scott was second in the pole vault behind a former All-American with his best vault of the year at 5.20 meters (17 feet, ¾ inches).
Junior Sha’Ray Butler nearly topped her personal best mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 59.71, placing second. Behind Anderson in the 100 meters, junior Victoria Howard was third, improving her regional time to 11.63. And a day removed from her triple jump victory, senior Crystal Manning posted a regional qualifying mark in the long jump, placing fourth, but leading all collegians.
Nike’s Bershawn Jackson won the Male Most Outstanding Performer award after running the fastest time in the world in the 400-meter hurdles. Jackson won the event for the fifth time in the last six years with a time of 48.32.
On the women’s side, MillardNorthHigh School (Neb.) sophomore Emily Sisson took the Female Most Outstanding Performer honor with meet records in the girl’s 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run. Her time of 4:51.42 in the 1,600 meters topped a four-year-old mark, while her finish of 10:25.42 was 19 seconds faster than Erin Mortimer’s time in 2002.

Kansas will now head to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays, April 24-26. Drake will also host the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 11-14.
