Kansas Golf Notches Ninth Place Finish in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing in their final regular season event of the spring, Kansas women’s golf finished in ninth place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational Sunday after shooting a three-round total 950 over two days in Columbus. The Jayhawks will now wait to find out their seeding for the Big 12 Championships next weekend in Lubbock, Texas.

“We kind of got off to a rough start and never recovered,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “But a top-ten finish is never bad when you are playing in a field like this. We will just have to regroup and get ready for the Big 12 (Championships) next week.”

Kansas shot a 327 Sunday, dropping one spot in the standings to finish in a tie for ninth place with Penn State. Emily Powers shot a team-low 235 over three rounds to finish tied for 33rd individually. Rounding out the lineup for KU were Sydney Wilson (74-81-81—236, t37), Meghna Bal (79-80-83—242, t56), Meghan Gockel (82-79-83—244, t60) and Grace Thiry (79-86-80—245, t62nd). Jennifer Clark (81-80-84—245, t62nd) competed as an individual for the Jayhawks.

Host-school Ohio State claimed the team title with a 10-stroke victory over second place Kent State. The Buckeye’s In Hong Lim claimed the individual title by posting a one-over-par 217 for the tournament.

The Jayhawks now await their seeding for next weekend’s Big 12 Championships. The event will run April 24-26 at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of Kansas women’s golf.
