Jayhawks Go Undefeated in Final Day of Spring Competition

FORT WORTH, Texas –

In its final day of spring competition, the University of Kansas volleyball team went 3-0 picking up wins versus Texas Christian, North Texas and Houston State.

Versus host TCU in the day’s first match, KU won two of its three sets with the Horned Frogs (25-22, 25-10, 12-15) led by junior Karina Garlington’s 11 kills. Freshman Caroline Jarmoc added eight kills for the Jayhawks, while sophomore setter Nicole Tate guided the offense with 22 assists. She also had four service aces in the effort.

During its second match, the Jayhawks defeated UNT 2-1 (22-25, 25-23, 15-11). Tate finished the match with 30 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. Garlington and freshman Tayler Tolefree each had a team-high seven kills.

In its final contest of the day, Kansas played three sets versus Houston State winning all three frames by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 15-7. Five players contributed at least three kills led by sophomore Allison Mayfield’s eight kills. Junior Mel Townsend was effective from the service line notching three aces during the match.

For the day, Garlington and Jarmoc finished with 20 and 19 kills, respectively. In the back court, Tate combined for 84 assists and 26 digs in the three matches. Junior Melissa Manda was close behind with 24 digs.
