Former Kansas Men's Basketball Captain Tad Boyle Named Head Coach at Colorado

April 19, 2010

BOULDER, Colo. – Former Kansas guard Tad Boyle was named the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Colorado Monday. Boyle replaced Jeff Bzdelik who took over at Wake Forest last week.

Boyle was introduced to the media by former KU football player and now Colorado Athletic Director Mike Bohn. Boyle, from Greeley, Colo., was a four-year letterwinner at Kansas from 1982-85, playing for coach Ted Owens his first two seasons and Larry Brown his last two. Boyle’s junior year, 1984, Kansas won the Big Eight Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In his senior campaign, 1985, KU again advanced to the NCAA Tournament with Boyle as team captain. Boyle played 88 games while at Kansas with 24 starts.

“I am happy for Tad and his family,” said KU assistant coach Danny Manning who played one season with Boyle in 1984-85. “Colorado made a great hire. Last year, he had a great season at Northern Colorado and he had that program moving in a positive direction. I believe he will have the same impact at CU.”

Prior to Colorado, Boyle’s first head coaching position was at Northern Colorado from 2006-07 until 2009-10. In his first season at Northern Colorado, Boyle’s team went 4-24. In his fourth season, 2009-10, the Bears won a school-record 25 games going 25-8, finished second in the Big Sky Conference with a 12-4 record and advanced to the second round of the Collegeinsider.com Invitational Tournament.
