Four Kansas Women's Golfers Tabbed To Academic All-Big 12 Teams

April 19, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas seniors Meghna Bal, Jennifer Clark and Grace Thiry were each named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference women’s golf first team for the third-straight season, while freshman Fhong Boonraksasat was named to the second team it was announced Tuesday.

The trio of three-time first-team selections gives Kansas 10 third-year honorees in its Big 12 history. KU has landed 43 first-team selections all-time. Ball and Clark were both named Academic All-Americans in 2009.

KU has produced at least three first-team selections in each of the last four seasons and has had at least two players recognized on the first team in each of the last nine years.

Boonraksasat earned second-team honors in her first year of eligibility as a redshirt freshman this season.

“I am very proud of Meghna, Grace, Jennifer and Fhong for their academic accomplishments,” said Jayhawk head coach Erin O’Neil. “They work hard and are great representatives of KU Athletics.”

Bal, Thiry and Boonraksasat have been key contributors to KU on the course. Thiry was the medalist of the Marilynn Smith Invitational, while Bal has three top-10 finishes and Boonraksasat has been the team’s top or second-best finisher in each of the last four tournaments.

To qualify for first-team recognition a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 grade-point average either cumulative or in the previous two semesters and have participated in at least 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.

A student-athlete needs a 3.0 grade-point average to make the second team.
