Three Kansas Men's Golfers Earn Academic All-Big 12 Recognition

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas seniors Jeff Bell and Nate Barbee and sophomore Alex Gutesha earned Academic All-Big 12 golf team honors it was announced Tuesday.

Bell and Barbee were tabbed to the first team, while Gutesha was named to the second team. Barbee earned first-team honors for the third straight season to become the fifth Jayhawk to be named three times in KU’s Big 12 history.

Bell and Gutesha earned the league honors for the first time.

On the course Barbee was the medalist of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate and will be competing in KU’s Big 12 Championship lineup for the fourth season. Bell has been a consistent member of the lineup and led KU with a tie for 10th at the Colorado Invitational. Gutesha is second on the team in scoring average at 73.81.

To qualify for first-team recognition a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 grade-point average either cumulative or in the previous two semesters and have participated in at least 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.

A student-athlete needs a 3.0 grade-point average to make the second team.
