Jayhawks Journey to Ames for Spring Soccer Contests

April 19, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas soccer team will continue its spring exhibition season Saturday when the Jayhawks travel to Ames, Iowa on Saturday, April 20 for a pair of contests. KU will begin the day with a match versus Big 12 foe Iowa State at 11 a.m. before returning to the pitch later in the day for a 1:15 p.m. meeting with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Kansas, who advanced to 6-2 in its spring campaign after defeating South Dakota State and Drake last weekend in Lawrence, will take to the pitch Saturday with favorable track records against the Iowa schools. Kansas earned its most lopsided conference win of the 2012 season when it beat the Cyclones 4-1 in Lawrence on Oct. 19. Kansas is 3-0 against Iowa State over the last three regular seasons.

KU has taken on Iowa each of the last three spring seasons, earning a 2-1 record in that span. The Jayhawks have split the all-time series with the Hawkeyes, 1-1, however the two teams have not met in regular-season play since 1998.

Leaders for the Jayhawks so far this spring season have been freshman Ashley Williams, who has posted two hat tricks in KU’s eight games, junior Caroline Kastor, who has notched four goals in spring play and KU junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Stroud, who has tallied a pair of shutouts and has allowed one goal or fewer in all but two of her team’s spring matches.
