April 20, 2005

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony was recognized Monday at a sports symposium hosted by the Department of Mass Communications at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University.

Marchiony received the John Domino Award, given to an individual who has “achieved excellence in the field of athletics.” Past winners include noted college basketball writer Dick Weiss, ESPN college basketball commentator Dick Vitale, Associated Press Sports Editor Terry Taylor and network football commentator Paul Maguire. The award is named for a St. Bonaventure alumnus and former ESPN executive who died of cancer in 1993.

Marchiony spoke at the semiannual Dick Joyce Sports Symposium, along with Pat Forde of ESPN.com and Jeff D’Alessio of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The symposium is named for the late Dick Joyce, former college basketball editor at the Associated Press. Joyce also was a St. Bonaventure graduate.

Marchiony has been recognized twice by the United States Basketball Writers Association for service to those who cover college basketball.
