LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas women’s completed its spring schedule Wednesday night at Free StateHigh School with a friendly against the KU Men’s Club Team. Sophomore Whitney Berry scored in the 14th minute, and the Jayhawks led until the final 20 minutes in a 3-1 loss to the KU men.

“Overall, I thought we competed really well tonight,” Kansas head coach Mark Francis said. “We’ve played this game for the past four years and other years we spend the whole game defending. I thought we did a good job of creating some things and attacking.”

Francis said he could see marked improvement in the team from the end of last season to the end of the spring. It was evidenced early on Wednesday night. After a turnover at midfield, freshman Liana Salazar fed Berry in the final third and the sophomore finished with her right foot 16-yards away.

The goalkeeping tandem of redshirt-sophomore Kat Liebetrau and freshman Kaitlyn Stroud made nine saves for the Jayhawks. Freshman Caroline Kastor collected a pair of shots on net.

KU wrapped up its spring practice schedule and will not compete again until the fall season starts in August.
