No. 8 Minnesota Sweeps `Hawk Rowers

April 21, 2007

ST. PAUL, Minn. –

KU failed to record a victory against one of the fastest crews in the county, No. 8 Minnesota, on Saturday morning, April 21. Windy conditions did not help the Jayhawks as they suffered their first sweep of the season. The sweep was the first of the year suffered by the Jayhawks. KU will now look to regroup for the Big 12 Invitational on Sunday, April 29.

Minnesota’s First and Second Varsity Eight boats are among the best in the country. They showed it today, defeating the Jayhawks by 24.4 seconds and 33.3 seconds, respectively. The First Novice Eight race was the closest of the morning dual, as KU trailed the Minnesota boat by only 12.2 seconds.

“Today, our weaknesses were exposed,” said Kansas head coach Rob Catloth. “It was a learning experience. Minnesota is one of the oldest teams in the country, and they are very deep. After facing a team like Minnesota, we see what our little flaws are and I think we will be able to correct those in time for the Big 12’s next weekend.”

Kansas will be in action next Sunday, April 29 in Kansas City against Texas and K-State in the Big 12 Invitational. Check back with kuathletics.com for more information on the Kansas rowing team.
