April 21, 2009

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — University of Kansas Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony was recognized Tuesday at the Dick Joyce Sports Symposium, hosted by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University, in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.

During a ceremony at the symposium, Marchiony had his name added to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication Wall of Distinguished Graduates. Previous honorees have included two of St. Bonaventure’s five Pulitzer Prize winners — columnist Dan Barry and John Hanchette, who won the Pulitzer while writing for the Gannett News Service.

Held on the St. Bonaventure campus every other spring, the symposium brings together sports journalists and professionals for an open discussion of issues of the day and presentations to Journalism and Mass Communication students. Headliners at this year’s event included Mark Kriegel, national columnist for FOXSports.com and author of two New York Times best-sellers; Jeff D’Alessio, editor-in-chief, The Sporting News; Vic Carucci, senior writer, NFL.com; Adrian Wojnarowski, national columnist, Yahoo! Sports; Mike Vaccaro, lead sports columnist, New York Post; and Chris LaPlaca, senior. v.p., corporate communications, ESPN, Inc.

The symposium is named for the late Dick Joyce, former college basketball editor at the Associated Press. Joyce also was a St. Bonaventure graduate.
