April 21, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Senior swimmers Alyssa Potter and Brittany Potter were inducted Wednesday into the Alpha Rho chapter of Rho Chi at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Rho Chi is a national academic honor society founded in 1922 that encourages and recognizes excellence and intellectual achievement in pharmacy.

“I feel very grateful to be a part of a select group and grateful that my hard work has paid off,” Alyssa Potter said.

Brittany Potter echoed her twin sister’s sentiments. “I am very honored and grateful to be part of this special group,” Brittany Potter said. “It is very exciting to see your hours of studying pay off.”

Rho Chi inducts the top 20% of each 4P pharmacy class in the spring of every academic year. The chapter is involved in the pharmacy school through various activities including:

  • Providing tutoring services to pharmacy students each semester.
  • Raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness via T-shirt sales.
  • Volunteering for the Shadow Buddies Foundation in Lenexa, Kansas. Rho Chi participates in the making of the Buddies, fund-raising events, and delivery of the Buddies to the children.

Kansas head swimming coach Clark Campbell commented on the hard work and dedication the Potter sisters have shown to both their school work and their athletic obligations.

“Our team is so happy for the Potters,” Campbell said. “To juggle pharmacy and swimming as well as they both have is extremely challenging. This honor reflects on the hard work done in the classroom at KU.”
