KU Tennis Falls to No. 71 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan.–Freshman Maria Belen Ludueña nabbed the team’s lone victory on the day as the Kansas women’s tennis team fell in its final spring dual to No. 71 Kansas State, 6-1, Saturday at the Wamego Recreation Complex.
The Jayhawks completed the spring dual season at 9-12 overall and 0-9 in Big 12 play, while the Wildcats improved to 8-13 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Kansas was swept in doubles play, dropping 8-5 decisions at all three positions to begin the day. In singles competition, junior Monica Pezzotti was downed by KSU’s 27th-ranked Petra Niedermayerova, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. In No. 2 singles, Sophomore Paulina Los took 101st-ranked Karla Bonacic to a third set tie-break before falling, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Ludueña, a newcomer from Curico, Chile, battled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Wildcats’ Ana Gomez Aleman at No. 3 to secure KU’s only point of the day.
KU will gear up for the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, April 26-29. The Jayhawks will take on No. 7 seed Oklahoma (10-12 overall, 4-5 in league play) Thursday. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
