No. 4 Texas Shuts Down Kansas Again

Texas starting pitcher Cole Green scattered six hits over seven shutout innings as the fourth-ranked Longhorns downed Kansas, 9-1, in the second game of the three-game series Friday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks drop their second-straight game to the Longhorns and fall to 19-20 overall and 8-9 in Big 12 play, while Texas stretches its lead on the league at 30-9 overall and 13-4 in the conference.
Texas scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Texas short stop Brandon Loy led off the game with a double and came around to score on a bunt single when Jordan Dreiling threw to an uncovered base at first. UT scored two more runs against Kansas starter T.J. Walz on two walks, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Kevin Lusson.
Walz was touched up for five runs on 10 hits in five innings of work. It was his shortest outing since opening night at TCU on Feb. 18.
KU’s finally produced a run in the ninth on a pinch hit RBI single by Chris Manship. The run ended a streak of 24-straight scoreless innings by the Texas pitching staff. Three different Jayhawks recorded two hits in the game, including senior Casey Lytle, who scored the lone run. Senior Brandon Macias and junior James Stanfield also chipped in a pair of hits for KU.
The Jayhawks will look to salvage the third and final game of the series against Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m.
