Kansas Tennis Ends Season with First-Round Loss at Big 12 Championship

April 23, 2009

NORMAN, Okla. –

The ranked doubles pairing of Edina Horvath and Ekaterina Morozova extended its win streak to five matches, but it wasn’t enough as the Jayhawk tennis team ended its season with a 4-1 loss to Missouri in the first-round of the Big 12 Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon. Kansas finished the season with an overall record of 10-13 (4-8 Big 12) while Missouri improved to 9-11 (5-7 Big 12) and moved on to a date with No. 1-seeded Baylor Friday morning. Horvath and Morozova earned KU its only doubles win of the day and Horvath clinched the only Jayhawk victory in singles action as MU defeated the Jayhawks for the second time this season. The Tigers won, 5-2, in a March match-up between the two squads. Coach Amy Hall-Holt was proud of her student-athletes despite the loss. “Missouri’s a good team and they won it out,” said Hall-Holt. “We put it out there and it was a hard-fought match, but Missouri pulled it out at the end.” The Big 12 Tennis Championship continues through the weekend in Norman, Okla.
