LUBBOCK, Texas – Kansas women’s golf arrived in Lubbock Wednesday to prepare for the upcoming Big 12 Championship this weekend. After a practice round on Thursday, the tournament will run from April 24-26 at the par 73, 6564 yard Rawls Course.

“We had a good day today,” said head coach Erin O’Neil after Thursday’s practice round. “The course is in great shape and I think it will set up well for us. We are just going to take it one step at a time and hopefully everything goes well.”

The Jayhawks will use the lineup of Emily Powers, Grace Thiry, Sydney Wilson, Meghna Bal and Meghan Gockel.

The Rawls Course will be familiar territory for KU, as the team competed in the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational last October. The Jayhawks notched a seventh place finish in that event, led by a seventh place individual performance from Powers.

“We played here in the fall so I think that will help with our comfort level,” said O’Neil.

The Jayhawks have notched four top-five finishes on the season, including a first place finish at the Duramed Collegiate Invitational at Rio Verde in March. Powers leads the team with a 76.07 scoring average and four top-ten finishes on the season.

Last season the Jayhawks finished in 10th place at the Championship, which was held at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. Powers and Thiry led the way for KU, shooting rounds of 247 and 248, respectively.

Tee-time for Friday’s opening round is scheduled for 8:50 a.m. Kansas golfers will be paired with golfers from Baylor and Oklahoma in the first round.
