Jessica Moppin notched a three-run homer to lift the University of Kansas softball team to a 4-1 victory over No. 5 Oklahoma Sunday at Arrocha Ballpark. With the win, the Jayhawks took their first Big 12 Conference sweep of the season and improved to 22-19 overall and 5-7 in league play.

The series sweep marked KU’s first over a ranked opponent since taking two from No. 23 Baylor April 13-14, 2001.

Freshman lefty Christina Ross (10-6) struck out five, allowed just four hits and walked one in the complete-game victory.

Moppin’s blast in the first inning scored Heather Stanley (singled) and Jackie Vasquez (doubled).

OU scored its only run in the top of the fourth. Christina Enea walked to lead off and scored on a double by Heather Scaglione.

The Jayhawks answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth off three hits. Elle Pottorf singled and was replaced by pinch runner Ashley Goodrich, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Washburn. Vasquez notched a base hit to score Goodrich and put KU up 4-1.

Serena Settlemier and Vasquez paced the KU offense with two hits apiece.

With the loss, their fourth straight, the Sooners moved to 42-12 and 10-5 in the Big 12.

OU starter Kami Keiter (24-5) gave up four hits, struck out one and walked one in the first inning to take the loss. Nicole Denes gave up four hits and struck out three in three innings and Stacy Braddock kept KU hitless in the last two innings.

KU will next be in action Tuesday when it host Arkansas in a non-conference doubleheader at Arrocha Ballpark. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
