KU's Meier Drafted in Fifth Round by Atlanta Falcons

ansas wide receiver Kerry Meier became the second Jayhawk selected in the 2010 NFL draft, when the Atlanta Falcons picked him as the 34th pick in the fifth round and 165th overall on Saturday afternoon.

Meier, a 6-3, 221-pounder from Pittsburg, Kan., was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and was on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List in 2009.

In his senior season, Meier ranked fourth in the NCAA with 8.50 receptions per game and 26th in receiving yards per game (82.08). He set a school record with 102 receptions, which he turned into 985 yards and eight touchdowns, posted five 100-yard games and five 10-plus reception games. In addition, Meier established school career records for receptions (226), season receptions (102) and game receptions. He also was second in receiving yards (2,309), second in 100-yard receiving games (10) and second in touchdown receptions (18) for the Jayhawks.

The last time a Kansas player was drafted by Atlanta was Dave Scott in 1976. Billy Hunt went to the Falcons in 1969 in the 12th round.
