LAWRENCE, Kan. — University of Kansas football players Lyonel Anderson and Austine Nwabuisi have agreed to free agent contracts with NFL teams. Anderson, a tight end will join the Cincinnati Bengals while Nwabuisi, a running back, will head to camp with the New York Jets.

“I am very thankful of the opportunity that I have received from the Bengals,” said Anderson. “Cincinnati is definitely a team on the rise. I’m excited to become a part of the team and to help the Bengals become a perennial contender.”

Anderson was the Jayhawks’ top tight end the last two seasons. He finished his senior year with 33 receptions for 328 yards. The Rochester, N.Y., native finished the 2004 season with an average of 9.9 yards per catch and three touchdowns.

Nwabuisi, a native of Houston, Texas, played four seasons with the Jayhawks. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry as a senior and finished second on the team with three rushing touchdowns in 2004.

“I’m really excited about the chance to continue playing football,” said Nwabuisi. I appreciate the Jets giving me that opportunity, and I plan on making the most of it.”

Both players are expected to report to their respective camps later in the week.
