Jayhawks Tied for Ninth Place After Round One at Big 12 Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Walt Koelbel and Brad Hopfinger led the way for the Kansas men’s golf team during the first round of the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas. The team shot a first-round 303 and finished round one tied for ninth place.

Koelbel rebounded from a slow start to shoot a two-under par round score of 34 on the back nine and finished with a 74. He is tied for 18th place after round one.

Hopfinger, whose round featured four birdies, shot a first-round 75 and is tied for 22th place.

Freshman Nate Barbee shot a first-round 76 and is tied for 27th place. Sophomore Patrick Roth finished his round in good form with two birdies and is tied for 40th place after round one. Junior Zach Pederson shot a first round 81 and is tied for 55th place.
