LUBBOCK, Texas – Meghan Gockel resides seventh place in the individual standings after firing a three-over-par 76 on Saturday to help the Kansas women’s golf team retain their fourth place standing at the 2009 Big 12 Championship. The Jayhawks shot a 310 in round two and are only one stroke behind third-place Oklahoma heading into Sunday’s final round at The Rawls Course.

“We held our own today,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “We are in a good position heading into tomorrow. We just have to stay patient and stay focused.”

For the second day in a row, Gockel had the lowest round for KU; the junior from Dallas shot a two-over-par 75 on Friday. Sophomores Sydney Wilson and Meghna Bal are currently tied for 18th place with two-round totals of 156. Rounding out the lineup for the Jayhawks are Emily Powers (82-77–159, t35) and Grace Thiry (82-79–161, t41).

“Meghan had another good round,” said O’Neil. “I was proud of her today.”

Oklahoma State held on to its lead in the team standings after the Cowgirls shot a 302 on Saturday. They have a six stroke lead over second place Texas A&M. Ashley Freeman of Texas A&M and Caroline Hedwall of OSU are tied for first individually with two-round totals of 145.
