Kansas Swimming and Diving Holds Postseason Award Ceremony

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas officially concluded the 2009-10 season with the team’s annual award and senior recognition banquet Sunday afternoon. Head Coach Clark Campbell honored four athletes with individual awards and named the captains for next year’s squad.

Junior Iullia Kuzhil claimed the Tammy Thomas MVP Award. Kuzhil was one of two Jayhawks to represent Kansas at the NCAA Championships. The junior from Cherkasy, Ukraine placed ninth in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events, making her an All-America Honorable Mention.

Junior and co-captain Joy Bunting won the Karen Dionne award, presented to the most inspirational member of the team. Bunting has been awarded this honor for the third year in a row.

Freshman Rebecca Swank grabbed the Newcomer of the Year award, while senior co-captain Meghan Proehl walked away with the Academic award. Proehl was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for her grades as a journalism major.

Campbell announced Bunting, soon-to-be senior Brittany Potter and soon-to-be junior Abigail Anderson as the 2010-11 captains.
