Jayhawks to Close Spring Play With UMKC, Arkansas Saturday

April 25, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas soccer team will play host to UMKC and Arkansas Saturday in the final exhibition matches of the Jayhawks’ spring season. The match against the Kangaroos is set for 10 a.m., while the Razorbacks will take the pitch versus KU at 2 p.m. Both games will be held at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex and are free to the public.

The Jayhawks are 6-2-2 during exhibition play this spring with the most recent results coming by way of a pair of draws to Iowa State and Iowa last weekend in Ames. KU opened the spring with a 3-2 loss to former Big 12 rival Nebraska before rattling off four-straight wins in international play as part of the team’s European Tour. Upon return to the States, the Jayhawks notched a 4-0 loss to Kansas City’s new professional club, FC Kansas City. KU returned to play versus collegians with 2-0 and 4-1 drubbings over South Dakota State and Drake, respectively.

KU will lace up against UMKC Saturday having never played the Kangaroos in regular-season action. Last season, UMKC amassed a 6-9-4 overall record and was 3-4-1 in Summit League play.

KU and UA have met five times in regular-season play with the teams splitting the all-time series 2-2-1. The Kansas-Arkansas match will be something of a preview for what is to come in the 2013 regular season as the Jayhawks will open their 2013 slate in Fayetteville with a 7 p.m. match on Aug. 23. The Razorbacks finished the 2012 season 9-10-1 and tallied a 6-6-1 record in SEC play.
