Van Slyke Named Big 12 Player of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. — For the second time this season, University of Kansas baseball player A.J. Van Slyke was named Big 12 Player of the Week. Van Slyke, a junior outfielder from Ladue, Mo., batted .545 (6-for-11) with six runs scored, two doubles, a pair of homers, six RBI, and a 1.273 slugging percentage in three games last week against Texas Tech and Wichita State. He led the Jayhawks to a critical Big 12 road win against the Red Raiders on Saturday, while taking over the team lead with 42 RBI.

On the season Van Slyke is batting .318 and is currently tied with teammate Gus Milner for the team lead with eight homers. In addition, he is second on the club with 11 doubles and 24 walks.

Van Slyke is the third Jayhawk to be honored as Big 12 Player of the Week this season (Matt Baty, Gus Milner).
