LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team will match up against Texas and Kansas State as they play host to the 2006 Big 12 Rowing Invitational on Sunday, April 30, at Wyandotte County Lake and Park in Kansas City, Kan.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and will see Kansas compete in the First Novice Eight, Second Novice Eight, Novice Four, Varsity Four, First Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight from the Beach Shelter location.

“We are very excited about hosting the Big 12 Invitational,” Kansas head coach Rob Caloth said. “It will be held at a new venue (Wyandotte County Lake and Park) that will be a nice asset to the racing. We would like to see good attendance at this event to cheer each team on.”

Kansas last competed against Texas when it opened the 2006 spring season in Austin. Despite an incredible effort, the Jayhawks fell to the Longhorns.

The Jayhawks will be competing against the Wildcats for the third time this 2005-06 season. In Manhattan last fall, Kansas broke K-State’s three-year winning streak at the Sunflower Showdown with wins in the First Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Novice Eight. At the Kansas Cup in Lawrence earlier this spring, Kansas topped Kansas State in the First Varsity Eight.

“There will be good, competitive racing that will most likely result with photo-finishes,” Catloth said.
