Kansas Track & Field Inks Five in 2008 Recruiting Class

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas track and field program, under the direction of head coach Stanley Redwine, announced Wednesday the signing of six incoming student-athletes to the Jayhawk track and field program. Nickesha Anderson, Anna Barber, Kendra Bradley, Clay Schneider and Iain Trimble have all signed national letters of intent to don the crimson and blue for their intercollegiate track and field experience. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Nickesha Anderson is a transfer student from MissouriBaptistUniversity and was a standout sprinter for the Spartans. The Hanover, Jamaica, native posted the team’s fastest times in the indoor 60-meter (7.50) and her 200-meter (23.79) during her freshman season. During the outdoor season of her freshman year, she posted team-best times in the 100-meter dash (11.29) and the 400-meter dash (53.3). At Kansas, she will join former Spartan Maresia Pencil, who joined the Jayhawks during the 2007 season.
Anna Barber hails from JenksHigh School in Jenks, Okla. She currently ranks second in the state of Oklahoma’s 6A outdoor 200-meter dash list with a time of 2:20.7. Jenks has been a recruiting hotbed for Kansas. The team currently boasts two former Jenks standouts: seniors Laura Major and Melissa O’Rourke.
Leavenworth’s Kendra Bradley is another sprinter heading for Lawrence in the fall of 2007. At the 80th Anniversary of the Kansas Relays, Bradley placed second in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 55.49, a mark that set a new Kansas Relays’ record. Bradley also placed third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.13 second and owns a personal-best time of 11.90 seconds in the event.
Topeka Seaman’s Clay Schneider represents another distance runner to add to distance coach Doug Clark’s arsenal. Schneider was the 2006 runner-up at the Kansas 5A cross country championships and was the 2006 champion in the Kansas 5A 1600-meter run state championships.
Iain Trimble of the ShawneeHeightsHigh School in Kansas will join Andy Kokhanovsky’s contingent of throwers in 2008. Trimble is a two-time Kansa Relays champion in the boy’s javelin and is currently ranked No. 1 in the US in the event with a throw of 214-09, which he threw to win the 2007 Kansas Relays.
Redwine is enthusiastic about the potential this class brings to the Kansas track and field program.
“I am definitely excited about this recruiting class because I believe they can step into our program and make an immediate impact,” Redwine said. “I also believe it is good to bring in student-athletes from in-state people and the surrounding areas.”
