Exciting Activities Surround Saturday's Spring Football Game

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Kansas Athletics has planned a full day of events and activities for the annual Kansas Football Spring Game this Saturday, April 30. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. on Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium and admission is free. The game will be televised live on Metro Sports in the Kansas City area and on Kansas 22 throughout the rest of Kansas. It will also be broadcast live on 610 Sports in Kansas City and across the state of Kansas on the Jayhawk Radio Network. Additionally, the game will be streamed live at www.kuathletics.com. This year’s Spring Football Game is brought to you by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lawrence.
The Hy-Vee Hawk Zone will open at 11 a.m. and feature inflatable games for kids and a special autograph session with former KU players. Kansas Football legends John Hadl and Gale Sayers and Super Bowl Champion Justin Hartwig, as well as current professional players Dezmon Briscoe (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Marcus Henry (Edmonton Eskimos), James Holt (San Diego Chargers), Kerry Meier (Atlanta Falcons), Mike Rivera (Miami Dolphins) and Darrell Stuckey (San Diego Chargers), will all be on hand to visit with fans and sign autographs.
The third annual Bike Rodeo will also begin at 11 a.m. in lot 91, just south of the football practice fields. The Bike Rodeo will feature a bicycle course and free bike inspections, courtesy of Douglas County Fire and Medical. In addition, kids 15 and younger will be custom-fitted with a free bicycle helmet (while supplies last) as they learn about bicycle rules of the road, trail etiquette and pool safety.
Gates to Memorial Stadium open at noon and fans can receive a free 2011 commemorative schedule poster and magnet. In addition, Kansas Athletics will distribute wrist bands as part of the halftime drug-free pledge elementary students can make with Head Coach Turner Gill and the Jayhawks.
After the game, Coach Gill and the team will be available for autographs.
Fans will be asked to enter and sit on the west side of the stadium. All parking lots on the west side of the stadium will be open, as will lot 94 on the east side. Lot 91 will be reserved for the bike rodeo. Fans can also park in downtown Lawrence and take advantage of a free shuttle service to the game. After the game, the shuttle will drop fans off in downtown for great food, shopping and entertainment.
KU will begin the 2011 season on September 3 vs. McNeese St. The Jayhawks will also host non-conference opponent Northern Illinois (September 10, Band Day/Family Weekend) before Big 12 rivals Texas Tech (Oct. 1, Homecoming), Oklahoma (Oct. 15) Kansas State (Oct. 22) and Baylor (Nov. 12) visit Lawrence.
Season tickets for the six-game home schedule are now on sale for as low as $199. The Family Plan, which includes two youth and two adult general admission tickets, is $450.
Fans can purchase their season tickets at the Spring Game in the ticket office located on the west side of Memorial Stadium. Tickets are also available online at www.kuathletics.com, by calling 800-34-HAWKS, or in-person at the Allen Fieldhouse ticket office.
