Five Kansas Tennis Players Earn Big 12 All-Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas. – Five Kansas tennis players were named to the Big 12 Conference’s All-Academic first team and one to the second-team, announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference offices.

Seniors Kate Goff and Maria Martinez, junior Erin Wilbert and sophomore Sara Lazarevic all landed on the Big 12’s first team and sophomore Victoria Khanevskaya earned second-team honors. The honor is the first for all team members with the exception of Wilbert, who garnered her second academic award from the conference. For her career, Wilbert now has three academic honors as she was named a 2010 ITA Scholar Atlete.

The Big 12 named 45 players to the All-Academic women’s team, including 37 to the first team and eight to the second team. The first team consisted of student-athletes carrying grade point averages of 3.20 or better while the second team required a 3.00-3.19 GPA.

Kansas will open the postseason at 10 a.m., Wednesday morning, taking on No. 44 Kansas State at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas.
