COLLEGE STATION, Texas–10th-seeded Kansas concluded its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Oklahoma in the First Round of the Big 12 Championships Thursday in College Station, Texas.

The Jayhawks finished the year at 9-13 overall and 0-9 in Big 12 play while the Sooners improved to 11-12.

After strong starts in doubles play, the 89th-ranked tandem of junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Dylan Windom ultimately suffered a, 8-5 defeat to No. 35 Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie at the top doubles spot. Oklahoma clinched the point with a win over sophomore Paulina Los and freshman Maria Belen Ludueña in No. 2 doubles.

“I felt we came out pretty strong in doubles,” Kansas head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “You realize how important doubles is. That one doubles point could have just affected the whole turnaround of this match. I have got to give Oklahoma credit. They stepped up in doubles when they needed to. Our girls were right there and they fought to the end. You can say would have, could have, should have, but I am very proud of how we competed today.”

The Sooners solidified the win with three-straight singles victories, all in two sets.

Oklahoma advances to quarterfinals and will face No. 2 seed Baylor on Friday at 3 p.m.
