KU closed out its regular season with a 9-13 overall record, including a 1-10 mark in the Big 12. Oklahoma earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament, while Kansas is No. 12 seed.
In the April 18 contest against the Sooners, sophomore Erin Wilbert defeated OU’s Tara Eckel in three sets at the No. 5 singles position. Freshman Vika Khanevskaya also tallied a win against OU’s Katelyn Connelly in three sets at No. 6 singles. At No. 3 singles, junior Maria Martinez battled OU’s Teona Tsertsvadze in three sets, but could not come up with the win.
Last season, the Jayhawks entered the tournament with a No. 9 seed and fell to No. 8 Missouri in the first round.
The winner of Thursday’s dual will move on to face No. 4 Texas A&M on Friday, April 30 at noon.
