Men's Golf Places Five On Academic All-Big 12 Team

DALLAS, Texas –

Five members of the University of Kansas men’s golf team were among 23 student-athletes named to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the Big 12 Conference announced on Wednesday. Juniors Pete Krsnich and Luke Trammell and sophomore Tyler Docking were named to the first team, while seniors Kevin Ward and Andrew Price were named to the second team.

Krsnich, a sport management major, has competed in each of the Jayhawks’ six tournaments this spring and is fifth on the team in stroke average this season. This marks the first time he has been named to the academic team.

Trammel, a sport management major, has participated in five events this spring for the `Hawks this spring. This is the first time the Edmond, Okla. native has been named to the team.

Docking, a mechanical engineering major., garnered first team honors for the first time in his career. The Olathe, Kan. native has competed in each of the team’s six events this spring and is third on the team in stroke average this season.

Ward, a sport management major, was named to the team for the second time in his career. The Leawood, Kan. native is second on the squad in stroke average this spring after competing in each of the team’s six events. Ward was named to Golfweek’s player of the week on April 1 after a career-best 64 in the second round of the Colorado-Stevinson Ranch Invitational helped him cruise to an eight-under 208 and a six-shot win over Kansas State’s Ben Kern. Ward’s performance also led the Jayhawks to their second-straight win in the event, and sixth in the last seven years.

Price, a communications studies major, was named to the team for the second time in his career. The Lake Forest, Ill native leads the team in stroke average this season and has played in three tournaments this spring. Price tied the all-time record for low round in a tournament this spring when he fired a 63 in the final round of the Waikoloa Intercollegiate.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, the men’s golf academic all-league squad consisted of 14 first team members combined with nine on the second team. First team members include those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Jayhawks will participate in the 2005 Big 12 Conference Men’s Golf Championship scheduled for April 29-May 1 at the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Trinity, Texas.
