Woodland Named To All-Big 12 Team

April 28, 2006

DALLAS – Junior golfer Gary Woodland was was one of ten players named to the All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced on Friday. Woodland becomes the second KU men’s golfer in as many years to receive this honor (Kevin Ward, 2005).

“Gary is certainly very deserving of this honor,” head coach Ross Randall said. “We are very proud of him because he has worked so hard and has really had an outstanding year.” The Berryton, Kan., native leads the Jayhawks with a 73.21 stroke average and three top-10 finishes this spring. Woodland is coming off an impressive showing at the Big 12 Championship where he finished in a tie for seventh. He has one individual title to his credit, as he won the Cleveland State Invitational with three sub-70 rounds this past fall. Woodland and the rest of the Jayhawks will await word on their NCAA fate, as the selection committee will announce the qualifiers at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 8.
